Why Teach?
Hello, my name is Madyson McCloud, and I was born and raised in Houston, Tx. I'm currently a freshman majoring in Early Childhood Education. I always played school with all my stuffed animals as a little girl. Being a teacher has always been a strong thought, but I’ve always been a little indecisive due to all the issues teachers face daily. But after long talks with other teachers, I look forward to combining them with my personal experience. I’ve finally found my “Why”. Growing up I would say I had the best of luck when it came to getting all the “good” teachers. Until I reached high school, I started to gain more “bad” teachers who cared more about test scores and stats, than the actual students and how well we truly understood. Looking back all the “good” teachers were the people who cared about you as a person beyond the academic standpoint. They took extra time out of their day to check on you mentally, and those teachers are the ones I always remember and helped me stay on track.
As the years have passed, I believe we are slowly losing teachers with that kind of heart and sparkle. Therefore, I’ve decided to pursue a career in teaching to help bring that heart and sparkle back to students. One of my biggest teacher role models is Ms. Troche my high school cheer coach, she was a teacher that made school feel less stressful and made coming worth it. My next one is Ms. Foster, my first-grade teacher, she was made teacher of the year almost every year. And it wasn’t because of test scores and data, it was because she made students feel safe and made learning fun and exciting causing kids to not want to be absent.
So, to fully answer the big question “Why Teach?”, I want to become a teacher preferably in kindergarten or first grade because I want to be the first enjoyable experiments of school these kiddos get. I want to bring and share love and safety. Also, I believe if you introduce positive and healthy learning at a young age, kids will dread school less and enjoy learning more. I want to be a teacher who makes learning less stressful and more exciting, just like my role models did for me. Many people have tried to talk me out of this career path because of money and teachers being looked over but there’s no better feeling than teaching or helping kids and they understand it, the fire in their eyes and the smile on their faces is totally worth it. You must have that drive and mindset that goes beyond your job description isn’t for you or to gain more money, it’s truly about the kids and helping better them for what’s to come.
I pray and strive to make all my students feel less like students and more like my own. Make everyone feel comfortable enough to come to me with issues beyond schoolwork. I just want to be my future students' biggest support system and make them feel important. 💗
I'm always on teachers' TikTok, it just opens your eyes to a more "hands-on" point of view. Because they're showing you their daily activities and struggles with being an elementary school teacher in this generation. It's very inspiring to watch. My favorite teacher as of now is @sweetestlittleclassroom
